SatPhone Shop - Iridium Extended Handset Warranty
When you select a Telstra Plan with a new handset from SatPhone Shop, you'll have the option to add an Extended Warranty for an additional cost. This warranty provides extra protection for your Iridium handset beyond the manufacturer’s warranty.
Please note that the cost of the extended warranty is paid upfront at checkout and cannot be included in your Mobile Repayment Option. The extended warranty is only available when purchasing a new handset with a Telstra plan, either for 12 or 24 months.
Satellite phones, such as Iridium handsets, are complex devices that can sometimes fail. Repairs can be expensive once the manufacturer’s warranty expires. The SatPhone Shop extended warranty offers you peace of mind by covering potential repair costs for up to two years from the date of purchase, for a small additional upfront fee. This ensures your investment is protected for longer.
The extended Iridium Handset warranty is offered by SatPhone Shop (SPS) as an optional additional value add for its customers.
How does the Extended Warranty work?
The SPS extended warranty is simply purchased through the checkout process online, when selecting a Telstra outright or Mobile Repayment Option and Telstra plan, then the Extended Warranty Option is presented and can be added to your cart. The SPS extended warranty doubles your Iridium warranty from the standard 12 months to a full 24 months from date of purchase. The additional cost if selected will be added to the cart and will need to be paid to SatPhone Shop, even if you have selected the Telstra Mobile Repayment Option. SPS Extended Warranty can only be purchased at the same time the handset is purchased and cannot be added later once the handset has been shipped by SPS.
The Extended Warranty is only available with New Iridium handsets purchased from SPS and cannot be added to handsets purchased elsewhere. The extended warranty is only available for the - Iridium GO, Iridium 9555 and Iridium Extreme 9575 satellite handsets.
What does the Extended Warranty Cover?
The SPS extended warranty only covers the new Iridium handset, so any other products or accessories purchased in conjunction with the Iridium handset and NOT covered by this extended warranty.
From the manufacturer Iridium, you receive 12 months warranty from date of purchase. The SPS extended warranty adds an additional 12 months of the same manufacturer's warranty to your phone, giving you a total of 24 months of warranty. This gives you additional peace of mind, in the unlikely event something goes wrong with your handset.

The SPS extended warranty is not transferable in the event you sell or dispose of the phone, in the extended warranty period.
The Iridium warranty and hence the SPS warranty does not cover:
- Normal wear and tear.
- Batteries and phone accessories
- Water damage or liquid ingress
- Abuse and misuse
- Use on non-Iridium products and accessories
- Unauthorised Service or Modifications
- Altered products
- Software and Firmware updates
How do I make a claim if something goes wrong?
In the event you do encounter an issue with your Iridium handset, you need to contact SatPhone Shop immediately via telephone or email with the following details:
- Full name of the purchaser of the phone
- Date of purchase
- Model of Iridium Phone
- Copy of proof of purchase
- Details of the fault and when the fault occurred
- Phone number of the phone service
Once SPS receives the above information, SPS will endeavor to trouble shoot and confirm the problem remotely with you. In the event the fault is confirmed unable to be rectified remotely, SPS will give instructions to send the phone back to SPS for further investigation. SPS will send an Australia Post Express satchel to the customer for the return shipping of the phone. It will be the customers responsibility to ensure the phone is properly packed to ensure to further damage to the phone in transit.
Once the phone is received at SPS, SPS will use best efforts to test and verify / identify the fault. In the event that SPS cannot verify the fault, SPS will contact the customer and advise phone is functioning normally and the customer can select to have the phone returned to them or proceed with sending the phone to the Iridium authorised service center for further evaluation and testing. If the authorised service center also confirms "no fault found" there will be a fee from the service center of $100, payable by the customer before return shipping by SPS.
If the fault is confirmed by SPS and the service center and the fault is covered by warranty, all repairs will be completed at no cost to the customer. Once the repair has been completed, the phone will be shipped back to the customer at no cost.
If the fault is determined by the service center as not covered under the standard Iridium warranty, a quote for the repair will be passed onto the customer. The customer can decide to go ahead and pay for the repair or have the phone returned as is. If the customer chooses not to proceed with the out of warranty quote, a $100 quote fee will be payable before the phone is returned to the customer. In either instance, SPS will ship the phone back to the customer at its cost.
Can I buy extended warranty later?
No, the SPS extended warranty is only available at time of purchase and cannot be added once the phone has been shipped from SPS.
Can I cancel / refund my extended warranty if I change my mind?
No, once the SPS extended warranty has bene purchased and the phone has been shipped, the extended warranty cannot be cancelled or refunded.
Can I extend the warranty for longer?
No, SPS only offers an additional 12 months of extended warranty above the Iridium standard manufactures warranty.
What happens if my phone is lost or stolen?
The SPS extended warranty only covers the proper functioning of the Iridium handset and does not offer or cover you for insurance if your phone is lost or stolen.
